Seminole County Council PTA (SCCPTA) hosted the Annual Awards Breakfast Event on May 10th 2017, at the Legacy Club at Alaquah. The event gathered PTA/PTSA leaders from around the county with FLPTA Executive Director Jean Hovey, Ginger Flynn, SCPS School Board Chair Amy Lockhart, Member Tina Calderone, and SCPS Superintendent Walt Griffin, SCPS Community Involvement Manager Misa Mills, the Foundation for SCPS Director Davia Moss, and Seminole County Council PTA Board Members.
All expressed appreciation for the efforts of 17,000 PTA members in Seminole County and the support that PTA offers to all students and families, teachers and staff, along with the support offered by SCCPTA. PTA Programs and activities make a difference across the county throughout the year.

The Results Are In For National PTA Reflections Awards! Congratulations to these Seminole County students who are National Award of Excellence and Award of Merit winners in the National PTA Reflections Program!
These students will be celebrated along with other winners at a red carpet event at National PTA Leadership Convention June 24 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, NV where their artwork will be on display. Award of Excellence winners also receive a $200 Young Artist Scholarship, Silver Medal and certificate. Award of Merit winners receive a Bronze Medal and certificate.

SCCPTA Awards Available to Local PTA/PTSA Units
Did You Submit Your Applications to Win? Award entry must be postmarked by April 24, 2017 (date was extended). Each individual form has the award criteria and other relevant details.
The awards ceremony is a wonderful breakfast celebration where all the attendees celebrate the award winning PTA/PTSA units, mingle to meet new friends, and share ideas. The SCCPTA Awards Celebration is scheduled for May 10th, Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes. SCCPTA will be sending an evite to all local PTA/PTSA units with event details. We encourage your participation to submit for awards and to attend the award celebration. Don't delay with your PTA/PTSA's RSVP of the number of attendees and payment.

Additionally, we are proud to announce that on March 31, 2017 we will hold two random drawings for a ticket each to the Awards Luncheon at our Leadership Convention in July. The entries will be from each local unit that has submitted at least one award application prior to March 31st. We look forward to hearing about all the good things that you are doing!

Students across Seminole County have enjoyed another year of participation in the National PTA Reflections Program. Students created visual arts, photography, literature, music, film production and dance choreography inspired by this year’s theme, “What’s Your Story?”. Thirty-five schools supported the Reflections program this year with over 350 winning entries advancing to SCCPTA for county level judging. Three Seminole County level winners in each arts area and level represented will advance to the state level of competition with Florida PTA.
Congratulations to the many talented and creative students who participated in the program this year and thank you to the many PTA/PTSA Reflections Chairs, committees, parents and teachers, our SCCPTA Reflections team, and the many volunteer judges at all levels who dedicated many hours to supporting the program. The County Winners and Honorable Mention Winners will receive their award ribbons and be honored at the SCCPTA Reflections Awards Ceremony and Vendor Event on Wednesday, March 1 at 7pm at Winter Springs High School. Non winners who advanced to compete at the county level will receive a SCCPTA Reflections Participation Ribbon later this spring.
Plan to attend the SCCPTA Reflections Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 1 at Winter Springs High School. The event begins with a Vendor event, Food Trucks, Cookie Reception and Art Exhibit at 5pm, and the Awards Ceremony begins at 7 pm. It is always a special event and we look forward to celebrating with you all!
Congratulations again and good luck to the Seminole County Council PTA level winners in each arts area and level who advance to the state level of competition with Florida PTA. They will be competing with other county winners from across the state for the Florida PTA Reflections awards. The Florida PTA Reflections winners will be announced in March and will be celebrated at the Florida PTA Reflections Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 22 in Pinellas County. SCCPTA President 2016-2017
National PTA is now accepting applications for the 2017 Jan Harp Domene Diversity and Inclusion Award. This award recognizes PTAs that best demonstrate outstanding achievement in the areas of diversity and inclusion, as well as efforts to end discriminatory practices. Online application submission deadline is Friday, March 17, 2017, 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.
The award will be presented to one state PTA, one district/council PTA and one local PTA at the Annual National PTA Convention, June 22-25, 2017, in Las Vegas.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Oct 1 is the enrollment deadline for the PTA National School of Excellence recognition program for this school year 2016-17. This is an opportunity for you and your school community to survey and evaluate current practices at your school. After submitting the results to PTA, and receiving and implementing unique recommendations based on PTA Standards, you then send the complete application to PTA by June 1. We have so many great PTAs doing great things at your schools, go for it!
